Emotions are an indicator of your alignment with Source energy. "You know you're in sync with your Source/Soul/Higher Self within when you're feeling...passionate, exhilarated, excited, inspired, happy, content, peaceful, clarity.. ~ anything other than this, is simply your Source within showing you the 'gap/discord' between how your Physical Mind is feeling about a subject and how your Source within is feeling about exactly the same thing. Any 'contrast' in our experience, always causes you to 'ask' for improvement which leads to your expansion.
